Turkish Airlines (TK, Istanbul Atatürk) is studying the possibility of establishing a North and South American hub out of Santo Domingo Las Américas. Turkish Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Evirgen Aydin, told the director general of the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (Instituto Dominicano de Aviación Civil - IDAC), Alejandro Herrera.

Aydin is reported to have told Herrera that Turkish aviation officials were interested in holding talks with their Dominican counterparts but did not allude to any time-frames.

Turkish Airlines has also been approached by the Uruguayan government over the possibility of using Montevideo as a potential South American hub.
